About CloverCode

A one-person software consultancy in Winchester, Massachusetts, working with small businesses across Greater Boston that have outgrown their spreadsheets but have no reason to employ a developer.

Who you would be working with

CloverCode was founded by Peter Lavelle and is deliberately a single pair of hands. The person who sits down with you to understand the process is the person who builds the software. Nothing is scoped by a salesperson and handed to somebody you never meet.

The trade-off is honest: capacity is limited, so only a few projects run at once. In exchange, nothing is lost in translation and there is no account manager between you and the work.

How CloverCode works

  • Free consultation first. Sometimes the answer is that you do not need custom software, and that gets said plainly.
  • Fixed written quotes. Scope and price agreed before work starts, rather than an open hourly meter.
  • Small projects, working software early. Something real in the first couple of weeks, so corrections stay cheap.
  • You own everything. Code, data and hosting in your name, on mainstream technology another developer could take over.
  • Support is optional. Ongoing if you want it, and no penalty if you do not.

What CloverCode does not do

Being clear about this saves everyone time. CloverCode does not do marketing websites, SEO retainers, or general IT support and helpdesk work. It does not resell a platform or take commission on software recommendations — which is why "keep using what you already pay for" is a recommendation that actually gets made.

The work is custom software, process automation and web applications, for small businesses across Greater Boston and Metro North.

Common questions

Who will actually do the work?
Peter Lavelle. CloverCode is a one-person consultancy by design, so the person you talk to in the consultation is the person who writes the code — nothing is handed to a subcontractor you never meet.
What happens if you are unavailable later?
You own the code, the data and the hosting accounts, and everything is built on mainstream technology with documentation, so another developer can pick it up. That is a deliberate design constraint, not an afterthought.
How do I get started?
Email pete@clovercode.com or call +1 508-944-7760. The first conversation is free and carries no obligation, and sometimes ends with a recommendation to use software you already own.
